The Rotary Santa Claus Parade

Twinkling lights, a nip in the air, and the anticipation of the upcoming holiday season set the stage for the Rotary Santa Claus Parade. Traditionally attracting more than 35 entries and more than 7,000 spectators, the parade is recognized by the community as Sault Ste. Marie's official kick-off to the Christmas season.

Join us after the parade for the Rotary Holiday Skate at the Steelback Centre.  The public will skate to songs of the season from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.  Admission is $2 per person.

on Shaw Channel 10 Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month of December at 1pm and 7pm on each of those days starting December 8th. 2007

The Rotary Regional Science Fair

The 21st Annual Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie Regional Science Fair will be held on April 3, 4, 5, 2008 at the George Leach Centre, Algoma University College. The fair is open to students from Grade 7 – 12 in six categories: Life Science, Biotechnology, Physical and Mathematical Science, Earth and Environmental Science, Health Science and Engineering and Computing Science. There are awards and prizes for the top project in each category as well as special awards. The top two projects will attend the Canada Wide Science Fair.

The 2008 Canada Wide Science Fair will be held May 10-18th, 2008 in Ottawa at the University of Ottawa.  All entrants have the opportunity of winning this all-expense-paid trip of a lifetime. Don't pass up this opportunity if you have the love of science.  Go to the Youth Science Foundation website www.ysf.ca for more information of the CWSF and about the Science Fairs in general.

The 2008 fair registration will be done online. Both the school and the students need to register online. Teachers log in to the website as soon as possible so that organizers will have contact information for them. The deadline for registration for students is March 29th, 2008. The website address is:http://www.sfiab.ca/algomarotarysciencefair Please be aware that there are strict rules in regards to liquids and live matter. There are to be NO liquids/chemicals and NO live plants or animals and NO glass. Pictures only are allowed. Marks are not deducted due to pictures versus the real thing. Liquids and live matter will be taken away and returned at the end of the Fair.

Set up of Exhibits takes place on Thursday, April 3rd between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. Judging occurrs on Friday, April 4th beginning at 9:00 a.m. and all students must be present for judging.  The fair is open to the public on Friday, April 4th at 4 pm and on Saturday, April 5th from 9:00 to 11 a.m.

Participants are asked to attend the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 5th at 11:00 a.m. We will have the 3 Noble Laureates as part of the judges team this year as well as they will be helping in the Awards Ceremony. Once the awards are over, students are asked to take their projects home.  See you at the Science Fair!!


Sports Awards Dinner
This is an annual event held to honour our local male high school athletes and inductees into the Russ Ramsay High School Hall of Fame.

Date:  June 10, 2008
Location:  Marconi Club
Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and awards at 7 p.m.
Cost is $25 per ticket.

Centennial Project (2004-2005)
In 1998, the club donated $130,000 to the purchase playground equipment that revitalized Sault Ste. Marie's most popular park.  To continue this worthwhile effort, the club and the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie North shared the commitment to fund an additional purchase of $85,000 in playground equipment, installed June 2005.  In addition to the equipment, the City of Sault Ste. Marie spent $50,000 to pay for the installation of a new walkway which makes the park wheelchair accessible.
